Okotoks implements mandatory masks

OKOTOKS (660 NEWS) – Face masks will now be mandatory in all indoor public spaces in Okotoks.

The community decided to implement the bylaw on Monday, and it will be in effect until active cases of COVID-19 are under 15 for 30 consecutive days.

“The town needs to protect the health and safety of all residents. Mandatory masks are an additional safety measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and flatten the curve more quickly,” said Mayor Bill Robertson.

Some of the places where masks will be required are drinking establishments, public vehicles such as transit and taxis, entertainment establishments, retail stores, gyms, studios, medical clinics, and inside all municipal public spaces.

Children under the age of two, resistant children five years and younger, people with medical conditions or disabilities, and employees not working within a public space or if they are separated by a barrier are all excluded from the bylaw.

Peace Officers will issue warnings whenever it is necessary, however “when a warning is not sufficient” tickets may be issued.

More information on the mask bylaw can be found on the town’s website.
