YYC Pizza Week offers up eclectic eats

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – It’s not a pie in the sky dream, it’s reality in Calgary for the next week. YYC Pizza Week runs until Sept. 30 at more than 40 restaurants involved.

Joel Dryden with Meals on Wheels says they’ll be competing in four categories.

“We have the thin crust category, the thick crust category. We also have the ‘out fo the pizza box’ category as we call it, which is kind of pizzas that fall outside of the norm.”

There’s also a category in honour of Pizza Week founder Wanda Baker. Some of this year’s offerings are eclectic.

“[One pizza] has brussel sprouts, double smoked bacon, fresh oregano, nutmeg cream. We also have one called the ‘Ragin’ Cajun Shrimp and Avocado.'”

You can vote on the pizza week website or use the new app. Dryden says over the past five years, $35,000 has been raised for charities, primarily Meals on Wheels.
